I'm sorry we no longer support Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE).

Why? You ask. Because of the huge number of email from Mahjong players asking why site will not work on their new Windows XP and IE 6.0 computers.

Bottom line Microsoft made a very bad decision NOT to ship Java with XP. Worse, IE 6.0, by default does not work either.

All of the above has caused a huge number of support email. I run the Mahjong server because I enjoy playing. I do not charge money to play Mahjong. I do not think it is fair to expect me to support a company (Microsoft), and browser (IE), and an operating system (XP) that is so anti-Java.

So, if you want to play mahjong, here is a list of supported browsers. If your reading this page I detected your browser as some sort of IE variant. So you'll need to download one of the browsers listed below in order to continue to play Mahjong.

Mozilla
Netscape
HotJava

The easiest method is to download Netscape

Download Netscape from the link above
Run Netscape
Answer 'yes' to making Netscape your default browser
Open a connection to http://mahjong.real-time.com

You should see a folded-page icon with a light-blue-puzzle piece in the middle of the page. Click it.

A new window should open. Click the "Java2 Windows Plug-in" button.

Highlight the Java2 Plug-in for Windows and click Ok.

Accept the License Agreement.

Make sure Netscape 6 is checked.

If everything goes OK, you should see "Install Results: Java 2 Plug-in for Windows: Successful"

Exit out of Netscape.

Rerun Netscape.

Open a connection to http://mahjong.real-time.com

You should be able to play Mahjong now.

I highly recommend Mozilla it's a little more work, but the browser is a lot nicer in my opinion. Make sure you get at least 1.0RC1 for the latest features.

Download Mozilla-1.0RC1 and install it on your machine Run Mozilla Answer 'yes' to making mozilla your default browser Open a connection to http://java.sun.com/getjava (yes, java.sun.com/getjava)

There is a bug at Netscape's site, the "Click to Download" link for Plug-ins doesn't work. It sends you to http://java.sun.com, so I am sending you to the correct url

Click the "Download" button in the upper right.

Click the button with the steam cup of coffee (Java) "Download" button.

Look for your operating system on this web page. Most of you will scroll down to the Microsoft Windows XP, Me, NT, 2000, 98, 95 and the Netscape Navigator browser section.

Click the "Download" link.

Click the "Download" link in the Row "Windows (all languages, including English) and the Column "JRE".

Answer "ACCEPT" to the STUPID License Agreement.

Finally, click the "Download j2re-x_x_x-win-i.exe" link (the x's are version numbers which will change in the future.)

Save the file to your hard drive. I saved mine to C:\TMP

Open up Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\TMP and double click the j2re-x_x_x-win-i.exe to install the Java Plug-in.

Copy all NP*.DLL files in c:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.0\bin c:\Program Files\mozilla.org\Mozilla\Plugins. Using a DOS window:

copy c:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.0\bin\NP*.DLL c:\Program Files\mozilla.org\Mozilla\Plugins

Exit out of Mozilla and run it again.
